My adventures in Austria in fall of 2022: Biking and hiking up Saile, hiking up Serles, hiking up to Höttingeralm, visiting Munich and Salzburg with my sister, going to my friend's medieval festival in Hall, hiking up at Seegrube on the Nordkette, visiting Castle Ambrass in Innsbruck with my sister, hiking the Zirbenweg with my sister, rock climbing at Martinswand, skiing at Stubai Glacier, via ferrata at Stafflacher Klettersteig in St. Jodok, visiting Wien, touring nuclear reactor at TU Vienna, and Krampus festival in Innsbruck.

Some of the outdoor activities I got up to in Austria in summer of 2022: biking to Hall, hiking up Hechenberg, rock climbing at Höttinger Steinbruch, hiking along the Nordkette from the Seegrube Bergbahnen, the Innsbrucker Klettersteig and summit of Vordere Brandjochspitze, hiking and camping at Achselkopf, biking to Jenbach, Lehner Wasserfall Klettersteig in Ötztal, biking in the hills above Hall and Wattens, St. Magdalena Klettersteig in Stubaital, Klettersteig Obergurgl, rock climbing in Obergurgl, hiking to the summit of Nederkogl, and downhill mountain biking at the Muttereralm Bike Park.

Biking in Austria

After hiking Saile, I biked back from Muttereralm Bergbahnen. 7 km, 15 minutes, first time riding this route.

Mountaineering, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Boat Tour, Sightseeing in Germany, Colorado, North Carolina, and Minnesota

I visited the US for in the summer of 2022. The video includes my sightseeing in Munich, Germany, visiting LeAnna in Ft. Collins, Colorado and then Cole and Keely in Denver. Then I went mountain biking in Lyons with Alan, summited Longs Peak, and camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. We then went to Winter Park for Cole and Keely's wedding and then I met up with Bryce in Golden, Colorado. After that, my family went to the South Shore of Lake Superior for camping and a boat tour of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore out of Bayfield, Wisconsin. The video closes with a view of noctilucent clouds over Iceland on my return to Europe.

Hiking, Via Ferrata, Mountaineering in Austria

Adventures in Innsbruck, Tirol in Austria in spring of 2022. Hiking to Denkmal Nordkettler, Kirchbergköpfl, summit of Patscherkofel, Bodensteinalm on the Nordkette, took a train to Rattenberg to see my friends participating in a Mittelalterspektakel, via ferrata in Haiming, and hiking to the summit of Hohe Warte.

Canyoneering, Rock Climbing, and Hiking in Utah

Alan and I did Baptist Draw in the San Rafael Swell and Bow and Arrow Canyon in Moab, and then we visited Double Arch at Arches National Park. As my friend Alan left, my friend Sontian met me and we did U-Turn Canyon and Bow and Arrow Canyon and spent an evening watching the sunset at Delicate Arch. We drove out to a remote entrance to Arches National Park and camped in preparation to do Lost and Found Canyon. We finished with some rock climbing on Potash Road before driving straight home to Texas.

Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Hiking in Colarado

This video showcases my trip to Colorado in October, 2021. I explored Denver by bike with my friend Cole, and then visited my friend LeAnna in Ft. Collins. We went rock climbing in Poudre Canyon and hiking at Mt. Crosier. I then took the Amtrak train from Denver to Glenwood Springs to visit my friend Alan. We did some mountain biking in New Castle in the evenings, and did a longer mountain bike ride in Glenwood Springs. We hit up Glenwood Hot Springs to relax afterwards. Alan and I went to Mt. of the Holy Cross and hiked it 8.5 hours. 

Canoeing, Biking, Mountain Biking in Minnesota

During part 1/3 of my adventure this fall, I visited family and friends in Minnesota. I went canoeing and kayaking with my family on Warner Lake, and my parents and I went on a bike ride on the Soo Line Trail from Royalton to Bowlus. My sister, her boyfriend, and I then went mountain biking at Lebanon Hills near the Twin Cities.

Skiing, Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Canyoneering, Mountain Biking, and Hiking in Colorado and Utah

I visited Cole in Denver and Ulises and LeAnna and I went hiking at Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Ulises and I also visited Mt. Falcon Park, and I went hiking at Genesee Park. I visited Boulder for a day to connect with some physics group at the university and NIST, and then Alan and I went rock climbing in Clear Creek Canyon. Cole joined us in Dillon, and we went skiing at Breckenridge and summited Quandary Peak. I stayed with Alan in Meeker for a week, and did some hiking and XC-skiing. We then drove to Moab, Utah and went mountain biking and then got in some hiking and sightseeing at Arches National Park. We did 2 canyoneering routes - Bighorn Canyon and Elephant Butte, and went hiking in the Fiery Furnace before I flew out of Grand Junction. See the trip report in my blog.




Mountain Adventures in Colorado
I visited Alan in New Castle, Colorado in June, 2018. His friend Nate joined us for some of our adventures. I climbed Castle Peak solo via the North Face Couloir route, and backpacked to Snowmass Lake and attempted to climb Snowmass Mountain with Alan before turning around. We also went mountain biking in Avon and New Castle, and rock climbing in Glenwood Springs. We climbed Slabtastic, a 2-pitch, 5.10a, 175ft sport route that I lead, and went kayaking on the Upper Colorado as part of a campsite cleanup and river monitoring outing for Alan's work at the Bureau of Land Management. We ended the trip by making another evening kayaking run along the Lower Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon before ending my last night at Glenwood Hot Springs. Mountaineering and Hiking in Colorado
Outdoor adventures in Colorado in late September, 2016 were absolutely beautiful due to the fall colors. I went hiking at Hanging Lake and the Maroon Bells and rock climbing in Aspen with Alan, Cole, and Darien. Also went backpacking to Snowmass Mountain with Alan, and summited Mt. Elbert with Arnel. Adolfo and Kristen met up with us in Glenwood Springs to help celebrate Alan's birthday! See the trip report in my blog.

 


Sailing in Texas
Racing on "Le Fay", a Sabre 38, in the offshore coastal Harvest Moon Regatta. We sailed 150 nm from Galveston to Port Aransas in Texas, completing the race in a boat record time of 21 hrs 50 mins and 4th place out of 9 in our fleet. The wind was steady and clocking at 20+ kts.

Adventuring with Brianna, Mitchell, Maria, Stephen, and my family.

Sailing in Texas
Jolly Bevo I Racing broaches on the downwind leg under spinnaker on Lake Travis at the Texas State Championship J/24 Texas Circuit Stop at Austin Yacht Club on March 20, 2016. Just after spinnaker deployment, the downhaul came loose and the spinnaker pole skyed. Pit was working on bringing the downhaul back in, and the foredeck was still on the boom. We were sailing a reach to the leeward mark, and when the pole lifted, the center of effort rose. At the same time, a gust of wind caught the boat. This caused a broach, which knocked the boat down quickly. Everyone stayed on board, and once the boom vang was blown, we were able to recover. I was skipper, Eric was trimmer, Alan was foredeck, and Peter was pit.



Sailing in Texas

On a cold, windy winter day on Lake Travis, I along with two other crewmembers took the Prindle 16 catamaran out in 15kt winds, with gusts to 30kts. While sailing on fast beam reach, the port hull separated and broke in half at the bow, pitchpoling the boat and launching us into the water. With assistance from the AYC Race Committee, we recovered the wreckage. Video by Adolfo.



Mountaineering in Mexico
Trip to Mexico in January 2015 where Alan and I climbed La Malinche, attempted Pico de Orizaba, and climbed a ridge on Nevado de Toluca. We visited Mexico City, Puebla, Toluca, Tlachichuca, and the Teotihuacan Pyramids. It was a great experience! See the trip report in my blog.



Sailing in Texas
Jolly Bevo I Racing heads out for some heavy air practice at Canyon Lake when all races are abandoned for the day due to 25kt winds, gusting to 35kts! We got 3 races in the next day and took 11th out of 15, and I completed my first J/24 Texas Circuit season with a 10th place standing overall. I was skipper, Alan was mast, Michael was trimmer, Jorge was pit, and Adolfo was foredeck. We had a blast!



Mountaineering and Rock Climbing in Colorado
Trip to Colorado in July 2015 where Alan and I completed our first multi-pitch climb near Ouray, summited Mt. Sneffels, sport rock climbed The Narrows in Carbondale, and mountain biked in Aspen and Snowmass Village. See the trip report in my blog.



Sailing in Texas
Jolly Bevo I Racing takes 5th place out of 17 in the J/24 Texas Circuit at the 2015 Corinthian Heritage Cup at Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club on Lake Lewisville. I was skipper and Alan was foredeck, and we had Greg as trimmer, Dusten as pit, and Cole as mast. We were thrilled to do so well!

 

Flying in Texas
Flying a DA-20 with my friend Nick (USAF) out of San Marcos, TX over Lake Travis. I took off, flew over the lake, stalled and recovered, and did several touch and gos and landings with his instruction. This was the most fun of my life!

 

Mountaineering in Colorado
Trip to Colorado in August 2014 during which my friend Alan and I attempted to climb Snowmass Mountain, and then headed up to Breckenridge for mountain biking and climbing Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Democrat. See the trip report in my blog.
